Alexandria Pet Care offers a free, no obligation consultation at no charge. No strings.  No charge.

We think it’s important for you to meet who’ll be coming in your home, get to know us, and see if we are the right fit. We conduct consultations via Zoom video meetings and they take around 20 minutes.

During your consultation

  1. Team introductions – You will meet the professionals who will be visiting your pet(s) & hear a bit more about their animal careers and background working with pets. We work in small neighborhood teams and you will meet yours during the consultation.
  2. The Grand Tour –  We will ask you to give us a “pet care tour” around your home, showing us where to find supplies & reviewing your instructions and pets routines. We may ask you to add instructions for us into your online account.
  3. Follow Up Questions – Examples of additional information we will need to know include:
    • What are your pet’s typical behaviors and routines
    • How do you prefer we access your home? (door code, lockbox with keys, garage code)
    • For dogs, what words or commands do they know? Any special leash handling or quirks?
    • When we’re pet sitting, would you like us to retrieve your mail? Water plants?
    • Where is the outdoor trash and what is the pickup schedule?
  4. What you need to know about working with Alexandria Pet Care – We provide information for you — how scheduling works, how our team works, how to get in touch with us, how invoicing works and how you can get notified of our visits and notes while you’re away from your home. You will also learn who is on the office team that is available to help with your scheduling needs and questions. Our company uses pet sitting software that you will have an online account for. We’ll review when to schedule visits and more.
  5. Additional questions from you!

Following your consultation

After meeting your neighborhood team, you can confirm with us if you’d like to make appointments, and then you’re a client!   If your pets need special warm-up time with us personally to overcome stranger fear or just to feel safe with who we are before you leave your pets in our care, we recommend two types of ‘pre-visits’ to help pets get used to us:

  1. Comfort visits – Your Pet Care Professionals can come over one at a time to meet you outside your home (typically this outdoor visit is for dog owners), for us to  meet in person, give treats, and have a relaxed initial introduction in person to minimize any stranger danger your pet might feel at a first visit.
  2. Practice visits – Some time before you need us on a regular basis (or before you leave town), your Pet Care Professionals can come over one at a time to do just that: a practice visit when you’re not home. This way, we can see how any skittish or fearful pets behave when we enter and do some sample chores, wash a pet bowl, feed a pet meal, or give treats to them inside your home.    A practice visit allows us to discuss any reactions and to ask you about modifying our visits to your pet’s unique needs.
